A grammar checker for Android that works in every app.

Lingently is a grammar checker app for Android. A small character floats over any app you type in. Tap it, and it checks the message you're writing, shows each fix with a one-line reason, and puts the corrected text back with one tap. You keep your own keyboard. It checks English, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese.

What it does, in four steps

1. Write as usual, in WhatsApp, Gmail, Slack, LinkedIn, your browser or most other apps, with the keyboard you already use.
2. Tap the character at the edge of the screen. Lingently reads the text field you're typing in, and only that field, only when you tap.
3. See each fix. The wrong words are struck through and the right ones are shown next to them, with a reason: "agree" is already a verb, so it doesn't need "am".
4. Tap Replace. The corrected message goes back into the app. Then you send it.

You can also select text and pick Lingently, share text to it, or write inside the app on the Write screen.

What a spell checker misses

Your keyboard underlines words it doesn't know. That catches typos. It doesn't catch a sentence where every word is spelled right but the English is wrong. Those are the mistakes people notice in a message to a boss, a client or a recruiter.

Every fix comes with the reason, so the next message is better before you even tap.

It teaches you, not just your phone

A checker that only fixes things keeps you dependent on it. Lingently saves every fix for practice:

• Redo your own sentences. A few minutes a day, you fix the exact line you got wrong last week.
• See your patterns. Which mistakes keep coming back, and which ones you've beaten.
• A word bank that grows from your own fixes.

Free and Pro

Every new phone starts with 14 days of Pro, with no card. When it ends you move to Free unless you choose Pro. Google Play shows the price for your country.

What Lingently can see

• Only the text field you're typing in, and only when you tap.
• Your text is sent securely to be checked, then deleted.
• Never password fields or SMS.
• Your history stays on your phone. Nothing in your message changes until you tap Replace.
