Lingently vs Samsung Writing Assist
If you have a Galaxy phone, you may already have a grammar check built in. Here's what it does, and what Lingently adds.
If your Galaxy phone has Writing Assist, try it first: it's built in and checks spelling and grammar at no extra cost. Writing Assist is part of Galaxy AI on supported Samsung phones. It fixes your message and can change its style. Lingently works on any Android phone, explains every fix in one line, and turns your mistakes into short daily practice, so it suits people who write in English as a second language and want to improve, not only correct.

Where Samsung Writing Assist is better
- It's already there. No download. On a supported Galaxy, you turn it on in Settings, under Galaxy AI.
- No daily limit in the free version is mentioned on Samsung's pages. Lingently's free plan has 5 checks a day.
- It does more than check. It can write a message from a few keywords and translate chats on supported models.
- It's part of the phone. If you live in Samsung's apps and keyboard, it fits right in.
Where Lingently is better
- It works on any Android phone. Writing Assist needs a supported Galaxy model. Lingently also works on Pixel, Xiaomi, Motorola and other phones with Android 10 or newer, so it stays with you when you change phone.
- It tells you why. "I have 30 years" becomes "I am 30 years old", with one line: in English, you "are" an age, you don't "have" it. A short reason is how the mistake sticks.
- It teaches. Your fixes become a few minutes of daily practice from your own sentences, plus a word bank and a list of the mistakes that keep coming back.
- Built for second-language writers. It's made for the phrases people translate from their own language, like "I am agree" or "we can discuss about it". See the ESL grammar checker page.
Which should you use?
- You have a supported Galaxy and want quick fixes and style changes: Writing Assist. It's built in.
- You don't have a Galaxy, or yours doesn't support Galaxy AI: Lingently, or see the best grammar apps for Android.
- English is your second language and you want to stop repeating the same mistakes: use Lingently for the check and the practice. It works next to Samsung Keyboard, so you can keep using both.
