Privacy Policy

Effective date: 17 October 2026

This policy explains what Lingently ("we", "us") collects when you use the Lingently app for Android (com.lingently.app) and the website lingently.com, why, and what you can do about it.

Lingently is run by an individual developer, [legal name], based in [country]. We are the controller of the data described here.

The short version

What we collect

Your anonymous account

The first time you open the app, it creates an anonymous account. We store:

We don't ask for, and don't store, your name, email address, phone number or Google account.

Text you check

When you check text (from the floating character, the Write screen, the text selection menu or the Share menu), the app sends that text to be checked.

Your text is sent securely to be checked, then deleted. It is processed by a cloud AI service provider acting on our behalf. We don't store it, and our logs don't contain it.

Usage counts

To apply your plan's limits, we count how many checks, lessons and word requests you use per day, week or month. These are numbers only, linked to your anonymous account. They don't include any text.

Reports you choose to send

If you tap Report on a result, we receive the text of that result (your draft and the AI answer), the reason you picked, any note you write, and the app version. This is the only case where we keep text you wrote. We use it to improve the quality of corrections. We keep it until you delete your account.

Pro trial and device check

New devices get a 14-day Pro trial, once per device. To do this, the app creates a key from your device's Android ID and sends a SHA-256 hash of it. We hash it again with a secret salt and store only that result, with the trial's start and end dates. We can't turn it back into your Android ID.

We use it only to prevent fraud: so a trial can't be restarted by reinstalling or deleting the account. It is not shared with anyone. We keep it after you delete your account (see How long we keep data).

Purchases

Pro is sold through Google Play Billing. Google handles payment. We never see your card or payment details. We receive and store a purchase record from Google Play: the purchase token, the product and plan, the subscription status, the renewal or expiry date, and the price and currency. It is linked to your anonymous account so the app knows you have Pro.

App integrity

The app can use Google Play Integrity to check that it is a genuine copy installed from Google Play. If this check is turned on, we store its result with your account.

IP address

Like any internet service, we see the IP address of your request. We use it to limit how many new accounts can be created from one network, which protects the service from abuse. We don't use it to identify you and don't link it to your checks.

Service logs

Our service logs record technical events, such as a check being made, its type, its status and how long it took, with your anonymous account ID. They never contain the text you check.

Crash reports

The app does not include a third-party crash-reporting service. If you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics with Google on your phone, Google Play may give us anonymous crash and performance reports.

The floating character (Accessibility service)

The floating character uses Android's Accessibility service. You turn it on yourself, after a disclosure screen in the app. Here is exactly what it does:

The text it reads is handled like any other check: sent securely to be checked, then deleted. You can turn the service off at any time in Android's Accessibility settings.

What stays on your phone

Your check history, words, practice and progress are stored on your phone only. They are not sent to us and don't sync between devices.

Ads (Free plan only)

Free users see one ad after a practice session. Ads never appear from the floating character or over other apps. Pro users see no ads.

Ads are provided by Google AdMob. When an ad is shown, Google collects and uses:

Google uses this for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent message before personalised ads, and you can change your choice later under Settings › Privacy & data › Privacy options. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.

The website

lingently.com sets no cookies. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that doesn't use cookies or track you across sites. It counts page views and gives us totals such as pages visited, referring sites and country.

Why we use your data

We don't sell your personal information. We don't use your text to build an advertising profile.

Who we share it with

We share data only with service providers that help us run Lingently, and only what they need:

We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of users and the service.

International transfers

Our service providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep data

Security

All data between the app and the service is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). The service has no open ports to the internet and is reached only through a secure tunnel. Sign-in tokens are stored hashed. Access to the systems is limited to the developer. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, or the CCPA in California), you can:

We don't sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising as our own business, and we won't treat you differently for using your rights. Because accounts are anonymous, include your Support ID (in Settings › About & support) when you write, so we can find your data. We reply within 30 days.

Children

Lingently is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area. We don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete the data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app changes. We will change the effective date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
